Women of Wonder - Coffee table book
The vision, mission, purpose behind presenting this photo Journal, is to acknowledge and honor the feminine divine energy in all its wisdom and beauty and to inspire and awaken humanity. If given the same opportunities as men, woman by nature will support, nurture, inspire, uplift, bring co-operation, and more compassion and raise the consciousness of humanity.
Stephen Laurence Harvey
As one of my favourite authors profoundly stated ...
“If woman are allowed the freedom to grow to their full potential, there will be many, many women enlightened; many, many women mystics, poets, painters, healers, And they will enhance not only the woman’s part of the world – because the world is one – they will enhance the whole world. They will give man also new dimensions because their ways of seeing things are different. Man looks at things in one way; the woman looks from a different perspective. Life will become richer."
OSHO

Nora Harvey (Goldie) My Mother
My greatest blessing in this life has undoubtably having been born to the most devoted, nurturing, compassionate loving parents a human could possibly wish for. My Mother was a beautiful soul, and hand in hand with my dear Father they created a beautiful home for my younger brother and I to grow up in, from where we would learn how to love by their example. I will forever consider them to be my guardian angels. My Mother was a quiet soft spoken woman, but in truth she was a “Silent Warrior”. The oldest of five siblings my Mother embodied the matriarchal figure of the family. Her nickname to all those that knew her was “Goldie” which her father gave her as a child because of her golden locks, in truth it was a more a description of her loving heart. Everyone who knew my Mother loved and deeply respected her. When my Mother transitioned, I felt a calling to honor her memory. Although I never had a sister, I have always been surrounded by incredible Women throughout my life, many of whom became my soul sisters over the years. This photo Journal, “Women of Wonder”, is a salute to all the amazing women I have crossed paths with and dedicated as a tribute to my Mother “Goldie" ... to whom along with her sisters I give all the credit for teaching me how to respect and value Women.
I love you Mum, may you soar the heavens, your forever grateful, loving son…Stephen

Robin Lim (Bali, Indonesia)
Robin Lim ("Mother Robin," or "Ibu Robin") is a midwife and founder of Yayasan Bumi Sehat (Healthy Mother Earth Foundation) health clinics, which offer free prenatal care birthing services and medical aid to anyone who needs it. She and her team have been working since 2003 to combat Indonesia's high maternal and infant mortality rates, and the Bumi Sehat birth centers serve many at-risk mothers. She was awarded the 2011 CNN hero of the year award by the CNN news network for helping thousands of low-income women in Indonesia with healthy pregnancy and birth services. In 2012, the Bumi Sehat Foundation provided 50,050 recorded incidences of patient care, educational and human services. From its beginnings as a community health and childbirth clinic in Bali, Lim took the Bumi Sehat Foundation to Aceh following the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Combined, the two clinics have facilitated the birth of more than 8,000 babies. And when earthquakes struck, Lim took the project to Yogyakarta in 2006, Padang in 2008 and Haiti in 2010.
Lim and the Bumi Sehat midwives are prepared to provide maternal and infant care in the middle of devastated areas with limited materials. Instead of cutting the umbilical cord, for instance, she burns it—especially in disaster zones, because it's something she can teach midwives and doctors who have lost their instruments. Using scissors to sever the umbilical cord carries a risk of tetanus, while burning the cord mitigates risk of infection. In addition to knowing how to safely respond medically, Robin Lim and the Bumi Sehat Foundation don't have any particular religion, and honor all requests and faith traditions, aiming to help mothers feel safe and supported.
Lim is an advocate for parental rights. Babies are often held by hospitals in Indonesia, until payment is made for birthing services. Parents sometimes in desperation relinquish their rights and place their babies up for adoption. Lim's Yayasan Bumi Sehat birthing sanctuaries offer free prenatal care, birthing services and medical aid to anyone who needs it in Indonesia, where the average family earns the equivalent of $8 a day, and a normal hospital delivery without complications costs around $150. A Caesarean section can cost more than $1,000. Indonesia's high maternal and infant mortality rates are caused in part by these costs, which many women cannot meet. In turn, their lives and the lives of their babies are at risk. While some Indonesian celebrities and expatriates choose Bumi Sehat to birth their children, and they often give donations, 80% of the families served by the clinics can barely pay anything, and are helped for free.
Personal life[edit]
Lim is a U.S. citizen, with deep roots in the Philippines, the homeland of her mother. Lim is a mother of eight children of her own, and author of many books related to infant and maternal health. She became a midwife after several personal tragedies, including the death of her sister (and her baby) from complications during pregnancy, and the loss of her best friend and one of the midwives who delivered one of her own children.
Lim was raised in the USA and Philippines while her father was stationed in Vietnam with the U.S. military. She studied at Santa Barbara City College. Lim and her husband, William Hemmerle, sold their home in Hawaii and moved the family to Bali. Once in Bali, Lim volunteered to help local women birth their babies in various homes. As the demand for her services grew, she decided to obtain formal midwife certification. Lim is a Certified Professional Midwife with the North American Registry of Midwives. In 2003, with help from the Balinese community and donations from friends across the globe, Lim and fellow midwife Brenda Ritchmond as well as board members; Eka Yuliani, Made Wena, and Made Sandiyasa opened the first Yayasan Bumi Sehat clinic.

Brenda Russell, (Texas USA)
With a unique musical perspective, intimate voice and prolific treasure-trove of lyrics, singer-songwriter Brenda Russell proves that a truly glowing talent only deepens with time. Composer of the classics “Get Here,” “If Only For One Night,” and the Grammy-nominated “Piano In The Dark,” Brenda’s songwriting prowess and chameleon-like ability to shift between musical genres and combine styles trumpeted ovations in 2005 with the opening of the Tony Award-winning hit Broadway musical The Color Purple–a show for which she, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray co-wrote the music and lyrics. Brenda and her co-authors were also nominated for a 2007 Grammy in the Best Musical Show Album category for the original cast album.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and presented by Oprah Winfrey, The Color Purple’s story spans a 30-year period in the life of its female African American protagonist Celie through music that blends jazz, blues and gospel of the early and mid 1900s with the writers’ pop sensibilities creating a show and soundtrack brimming with emotion, authenticity and memorable songs.
While composing The Color Purple, Brenda also wrote, recorded and co-produced a solo album, Between the Sun and the Moon–released in 2004 on Dome Records, an R&B- focused label based in the UK. Narada Jazz licensed the CD for release in the U.S. The album aptly displays her song craft and nuanced vocals mixing up-tempo grooves with her classic balladry in a work that satisfied longtime fans while enticing new listeners. Recorded in both the UK and the U.S., the album includes production and writing collaborations with such notables as Bluey from Incognito, Lee Ritenour and Patty Austin.
Born to musical parents in Brooklyn, New York, Brenda grew up there and in the Canadian town of Hamilton, Ontario. She encountered her first piano while singing as a teenager in the Canadian company of the rock musical Hair in Toronto. Without formal musical education, Brenda says she worried that she would never be able to write another song after her first composition. “Then I had a revelation: ‘You’re not doing this alone. You are just a channel for this,’ Brenda recalls. “Once I realized that, I was sort of fearless about songwriting. I thought: ‘If that’s the way it is, I can write anything.’ And that’s the premise I’ve based my whole writing career on.”
“I am a citizen of the world and believe in peace and love to all people. That is what I write about and what I sing about. It’s the motivating force behind everything I do and the way I live. I want my music to bring people together.”
Brenda Russell is a true Woman of Wonder

Amalia Wai-Ching Lee ( Bali, Indonesia )
Wai-Ching Lee, is a natural healer/medical intuitive descended from a lineage of traditional healers on both the paternal and maternal sides.
She has combined her innate ability in healing with experiential mystical experiences in cross cultural contexts and academic study of the phenomena and practice, resulting in 30 years of adult experience in the field of holistic healing, human ecology and consciousness.
Her personal experience with cancer prevention and care, and work in Bio- energy/Vibrational/Holistic/Quantum Medicine has led her to collaborate with medical practitioners all over the world in Integrative Medicine since 1992 as referral practitioner, teacher, co- researcher and designer of holistic programmes.
"It’s in my DNA, in my blood. My great grandfather was a Chinese physician to the Sultan of Selangor in Malaysia. Even my grandfather had abilities with healing, especially with toothaches. He was able to heal a toothache by touching a nail to the tooth then hammering the nail to a tree and the pain would go away.
On the maternal side I have six aunts who also are quite mystical. We are of the Peranakan heritage – overseas Chinese merged into the culture of Southeast Asia. For example, I used to accompany my grandmother around the house with frankinscence smouldering on charcoal in a terracotta tray. This set the tone for my work in space clearing and blessings with hotel and villa developers, retail shops, spas, clinics, work spaces and residences. I did not expect it but I was featured on the front cover of a Singapore newspaper as “Madam Glam Ghostbuster” for the efficacy of the work. It runs in the family. So I grew up with all the healing arts, including making our own face powder according to the full moon, making herbal products for our face and bodies, receiving massages and cooking with herbs in the most creative and delicious ways. My aunts and I bathed in floral waters to purify the aura. So this was part of my education, it’s not learned from a book".

Leslie Fram ( Beverly Hills, USA )
My driving force has always been to grow towards realizing my potential, to expand myself in all facets, be it emotionally, physically, career-wise, intellectually, spiritually, creatively, etc. “Bigger, better, bolder,” I have been heard to say. In this respect, I keep interested, inspire others, and do the right thing whilst overcoming my own fears.
Thanks to my mother, my early foundation was very NYC arts-centric. I grew up dancing with the New York City Ballet which instilled in me a rigorous work ethic, a sense of physicality and a true love of the arts. After receiving a B.A. in art history and literature from Barnard College, I formed a fashion company, designing clothing for young women like myself, and then later combined my literary and fashionista talents to become the Trends Editor at various women’s national magazines like Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
Feeling the need to work the left side of my brain, I returned to school to receive an M.B.A. from Columbia University. At this point my trajectory shifted slightly as I began thinking increasingly entrepreneurially, engaging in start-up ventures in burgeoning new markets. In 1995, I was an early champion of the Internet, serving as Hearst New Media’s first Director of Business Development leading Hearst’s magazines onto the online arena. In 1999, my husband and I moved to Silicon Valley where I wrote the first and only definitive guide on the subject, How To Marry A Divorced Man (published by HarperCollins and soon premiering as an off-Broadway musical), based on my actual experience marrying a divorced man. There in Palo Alto, I gave birth to my son Stanford (yes, he was born at Stanford Hospital!), who is by far my greatest creation.
Our family then moved to Los Angeles where I received a degree from UCLA’s School of Engineering’s Waste Management Program and then pioneered work in the nation’s waste-to-energy industry, a category still in its infancy. Most recently, I co-founded The Brain Fitness Center @ UCLA, a revolutionary brain-training facility in Los Angeles led by neuroscientists where clients like you and I can go to brain-boost our lives. I truly believe personal brain fitness management is a next frontier—‘tis very exciting!
I still design a clothing line, contribute to the arts, dance every day, but being a woman, my largest contribution is that I give love. As women, we give love to our family, our friends, our charities and our community. It’s in our nature and we do it well. And by making sure we are fulfilled and happy personally, we can give that much more. I see it as our responsibility, we have no choice, the world truly needs it.

Lishan Lim ( Singapore )
I am Lishan Lim, a yoga teacher, holistic healer, model, actress and performing artist.
Now I am living the life I dream of, guiding people through yoga classes in various settings, offering private and corporate sessions, facilitating workshops, performing at festivals, leading retreats to off the beaten path locations. I love how yoga has brought me around the world (Bali, Philippines, Thailand, Mongolia) to share my spiritual teachings and its amazing benefits that rejuvenate mind, body and soul.
I started my yoga teaching journey by asking friends and family to donate to an orphanage in Siargao island, Philippines where I learnt to surf and freedive. Two years since, I am now sharing this beautiful art of moving in meditation with locals when I travel, taxi drivers, freedivers, children, pregnant women, the elderly, expats and more. I love how I can use yoga to raise funds for those in need (cat welfare, migrant workers)
WHY I DO YOGA
From the time I was 15-21, I suffered with bulimia, self harm and depression. Yoga was the light in that darkness which lifted my moods and empowered me with the coping skills that calmed my racing thoughts and breath. The physical practice of yoga made me strong, flexible and balanced while its subtler aspects gave me the permission to tap into my wise inner voice.
Since my first time stepping into my first class- a bikram class at Hom Yoga in August 2013, I have had the chance to practise and teach so many individuals about who they truly are, a great privilege indeed. Yoga has given me the passport to a compassionate and loving community to connect with and most importantly, the self love which I lacked when struggling with low self esteem, body image issues and the pressures of growing up in a competitive, urban environment. Yoga has injected purpose and passion into my life and healed me emotionally and spiritually.
I believe yoga is for everyone and does not discriminate- a strong flowing practice or gentle awareness in yoga nidra is possible. I am a strong advocate of practising all eight limbs of yoga and wish that it will one day be incorporated in the education and health care system (it slowly but surely is!)
Besides yoga, I have discovered various other modalities under the tree of healing arts such as reflexology, reiki, sound healing, detoxification, hypnotherapy and more. In a bid to heal myself, my visits to Ubud, Bali have opened my eyes and heart to the array of options that address dis-ease beyond physical solutions. I am now certified in many areas because of my curiosity and interest in learning. I believe that in improving myself and choosing what is most aligned to my soul, the people around me benefit.
Right now, I am in a much better space when I first started practising yoga. With so many methods in my toolbox, I enjoy the confidence and respect I have for myself. I enjoy the compassion I extend to myself in times of vulnerability. And I love how the love for myself expands beyond me as an individual. Ultimately, we are united in our collective consciousness. Yoga calms the fluctuations of our minds to melt the ego away and realise what we are- pure bliss. Yoga is a powerful in this crucial point in history. If everyone can see beyond the illusions of the material world, we would step into a new chapter of peace.

Winnie Chin ( Singapore )
Art has always been the passion of Winnie who has been in this industry for 20 years.
Starting as a collector of contemporary art and Asian antiques, Winnie went on to pursue a career in art, to explore, immerse and experience in the diversity and multi-faceted definition on the beauty and appreciation for of art .
The first foray into art for Winnie was the art of film making, which was one of her core studies in university. Always captivated by the beauty of images, words and story, the position to lecture on film for a semester at a polytechnic in Singapore became a career for several years, followed with a lecturing position on conceptual photography. The reason to stay on in education for almost a decade was primarily to her love for these 2 disciplines and above all to share her experience and knowledge with her students.
During this time, to further explore and engage in her love for photography and writing, Winnie became a freelance writer and photographer with work engagements by travel magazines and book publishers whereby she was flown to foreign locations for travel shots, conducted interview with personalities as well as writing features about art, artists and art exhibitions.
Moving on from the academic aspect of the art of film and photography, Winnie returned to her interest for fine arts as an art consultant and art feature writer for an international gallery that is renowned for its collection of Masters from the likes of Botero to Chagall and Monet, Museum of Contemporary Art in Singapore with exhibitions by celebrated contemporary Chinese artists as well as managed a gallery specialising in top tier Chinese antiques.
Having built up and strength her knowledge of art trends and developments, a new spectrum of art provided Winnie with a whole new perspective into the appreciation and consumption of art. In her position as an art consultant for a world-renowned hospitality interior design company, Winnie applies her knowledge of art for a commercial aspect for the conceptualisation, management and acquisition of artworks for prestigious hotel properties.
With a career that has explored the diversity of art and the business of art, my interest and love for art has strengthen through the years as I grow and learn more about art. Since I was a child, art has always my favourite subject as I love looking at beautiful images. From excelling in painting classes during my school years even right up to university, I would also save money to buy books about art and artists, to learn more of the craft of painting, the history of art and the story behind the artists.
Through the years, I am blessed that my career path has always revolve around art and I get to work in companies, galleries that I get to personally interact with renowned artworks and artists.
Always holding to a strong belief in empowerment through education, with all the knowledge and experience I have gained, I hope one day I can pass them on through education, awareness programmes that enable me to share all that I have learnt to the younger generation and to nurture this passion for those who have the interest.

What others have to say about Maria:
Jay Weissberg (Variety), met Ms. Dinulescu at Cannes in 2007 and he writes:
". . .it is very rare that jaded critics stand up and take notice, but quite a number of us remarked at the time that Dinulescu was an actress to watch."
"She has chosen roles wisely and has been fortunate in that several films she’s starred in have been screened at the world’s most important festivals, including Cannes, Venice and Toronto. This exposure has broadened her name recognition far beyond Romania’s borders, and she is currently one of the most recognizable and watched actresses in the Romanian film industry – an industry, I should add, whose extraordinary renaissance in recent years has meant that every major International film festival actively seeks out Romanian films for their roster."
Yale University Professor, David Chambers, states:
"As an actress, Maria Dinulescu is uncommonly protean, absolutely distinct and different in each role she plays. Her range of abilities as an actress is simply astounding: here a beguiling gamine, there an androgynous mystery woman, next a rebellious fury, then a delightfully comic trickster with a twinkle in her eye."
Columbia University Professor, Andrei Serban, states:
"Maria Dinulescu is an extremely gifted actress with love for her craft and enthusiasm for her profession. I am impressed with her ardor and devotion to the classic roles as well as new characters she plays so charmingly on the big screen, which brought her impressive awards. Without hesitation I can declare that Maria Dinulescu is an outstanding actress with a skilled potential and upcoming career."
Guillermo Arriaga, Writer & Director, Cannes Palme d'Or Winner and Oscar Nominated, writes:
"She is an extraordinary actress with a bright future ahead of her due to her great talent. She is sought after by several of the top directors for difficult roles. I am sure that Maria Dinulescu can bring many good things to the American cinema."

Erica Ford ( New York, USA )
CEO and Founder of LIFE, Camp Inc.
“This is not a job, this is my LIFE; my undying love keeps me committed to my people until my glory day takes me away.”
Erica Ford
Erica Ford remembers what it was like growing up in Jamaica, Queens back in the 1980s, where crack use and gun violence was an everyday occurrence. A resident in the high crime neighborhood since the age of five, Erica grew up attending countless funerals for friends and seeing mothers left alone to raise their children after losing their husbands to death or prison.
With a burning desire to help effect positive changes in her community, Erica attended a rally for the December 12th Movement, an international human rights’ group. Joining the December 12th Movement empowered Erica, then 18, and solidified her life’s ambition to become a change maker. Shortly after, she founded the Black Consciousness Youth Move- ment that not only helped create and develop student governments in New York City high schools, but also organized action against police brutality, while calling for self- accountability.
While at York College (The City of the University of New York), where she earned a bache- lor’s degree in political science, she served as President of the Black Student Caucus, Vice President of the Evening Student Government and co-founder of The Code Club, formed in 1994, with her friend, the late Tupac Shakur, and others. The group’s mission was to keep young people out of jail and to decrease “Black on Black” crime. In 1998 and 1999, The Code co-coordinated the Million Youth March where tens of thousands of young people from across the country assembled to rally against injustices and strengthen their plat- forms.
In 2002, the tragic murders of two children in her community inspired Erica, along with Jef- fery “Ja Rule” Atkins and others, to create the monumental LIFE Camp (Love Ignites Free- dom Through Education). LIFE Camp provides at-risk inner-city youth, ages 13-24 years, the valuable tools they need to stay in school and out of the criminal justice system. The pro- gram also offers these individuals educational, employment and social opportunities they might not otherwise have. LIFE Camp has even spawned an I Love My LIFE tour which high- lights young entrepreneurs and visits schools and prisons with the LIFE Camp message of anti-violence and self-love. Another offshoot of LIFE Camp is Erica’s Peace is a Lifestyle pro- gram, featuring holistic guru Deepak Chopra. Chopra, an outspoken supporter of Erica’s work, makes monthly visits to LIFE Camp where he talks to and meditates with the group participants.
Through the years, Erica’s dedication to reducing violence among young New Yorkers has garnered, countless awards, accolades, praise and recognition by notable public figures such as former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Reverend Al Sharpton, and hip hop mogul Russell Simmons. Her recognized leadership has brought extensive travel and speaking gigs in prisons, community centers, high schools, college campuses, and confer- ences throughout the country and internationally.
Erica’s made numerous appearances in print, television, radio and Internet outlets and has partnered with numerous entertainers, and athletes, such as Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, Salt & Pepa, NBA Allstars Kenny Smith, Stephon Marbury and John Starks, NFL Superbowl Champ Michael Strahan and TI, to name a few, encouraging them to give back and play an active role in transforming lives and communities:
After practically 30 years of dedicating herself to championing for today’s youth, Erica Ford shows no signs of stopping. Her current ‘Bury Da Beef’ campaign has put together a citywide coalition/campaign to reduce gun violence. Another recent brainchild, her NY Peace Week, occurs each January and honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of non- violence. Organized by LIFE Camp, Inc., the collective goal is to create a culture of peace throughout NYC for seven days by hosting an event, performing an activity or simply taking one personal action toward creating inner peace and setting a positive example for young people.

The Nameless ( Jakarta, Indonesia )
There are Women of Wonder all over the world that are not always in the most fortunate of circumstances, this I have witnessed up close in my travels. Being forced to live and beg for food on the streets with children is not an easy life. There are many Women that must find the strength to go on each day despite their misfortune. It takes courage to face life’s challenges even when one has the comforts of a good life. Facing insurmountable odds living in the streets, no education, no hope, no clear direction to take that would lead one to a better existence takes a brave heart. I hope to also shine a light on the everyday Women that get up everyday and do their best despite the challenges they face

Dr. Kathleen Rosenblatt ( Los Angeles , USA )
Dr. Rosenblatt specializes in removing psychological, emotional, and physical pain by getting at the underlying cause, treating back and neck pain, neuropathy, migraines, weight issues, women’s health, sexual dysfunction, addictions, emotional dysfunction.
In her practice in Los Angeles, she applies both verbal and hands-on techniques, applying both Eastern and Western approaches to pathology, pain, and mental and emotional dysfunction. She applies both ancient and modern formulas, using acupuncture, massage, PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Stimulation), Chinese herbs with customized directives for exercise and nutritional supplementation.
Kathleen manipulates the acupuncture energy pathways, the body’s electrical conduits. Acupuncture involves altering (discharging) the electric charge in the muscles & nerves, sedating the pain sensors, and inducing an anti-inflammatory response. Blood circulation is improved with massage and gentle heat, including moxibustion or infra-red light which gently penetrates the tissue to reduce inflammation.(Needle-less treatment is available).
A special friction massage removes stagnant blood that is often sluggish in the muscle tissue causing that familiar ache and tightness that presses on the affected vertebral nerves. As the fresh blood flows in, this massage technique often produces immediate dramatic relief, creating a drainage effect in the pounding arteries of the head. Patients often report greater range of motion, enhanced mental focus, and more satisfying sleep.
If any one of the following exist—arthritis, damaged/herniated disc, or bone spurs, this treatment will also restore oxygen to the tissue, remove toxins, and begin to dissolve the mineral buildup.
Acupuncture improves faulty metabolism, a contributing factors in arthritis. Something is wrong when the minerals we ingest deposit themselves ON our joints instead of inside our bones and muscles.

Janet Balaskas ( London, UK )
is an author and founder of the Active birth movement, and childbirth educator. She is perhaps known best for her advocacy of active birth where the woman is free to move during labour, rather than being placed into stirrups or the lithotomy position. She coined the term "active birth" which she explained in the first of her books Active Birth published in 1983.
"New Active Birth" was written to help couples prepare for and experience an Active Birth. Naturally. Throughout time and the world over, women have chosen to walk, stand, squat, lie - to move their bodies freely and actively to find the most comfortable positions for labour and birth. It is only in the west they adopt the extraordinary notion that a woman should lie on her back in a position that defies the laws of nature and gravity. Through Janet's books, women have learned develop all their bodies resources to deal with the instinctive experience of childbirth. It is also for partners, teachers, midwives and everyone involved, to help mothers get up off the delivery table and to bring back some of the common sense which has been overlooked by modern obstetrics. "New Active Birth" is the new and revised edition of Janet Balaskas' pioneering and acclaimed "Active Birth" covering over 180 clear black and white photographs and line drawings throughout. Fully updated and extended with new information - includes sections on Water Birth and Recovery After Birth. It offers revised and expanded prenatal and postnatal exercises with step by step photographs. It presents a detailed up-to-the minute section covering every aspect of Active Birth at home and in hospital and the Active Birth Movement. The mother of four children, she trained with the National Childbirth Trust and is a counsellor for childbirth. Born in South Africa, she is currently the Director of the Active Birth Centre in London, UK.
